The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) on 12th October, 2021 has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the East African Business Council (EABC) to reduce skills mismatch and upscale the digital transformation of the East African Community.
Speaking at the signing ceremony conducted at NM-AIST Guest of Honor Arumeru District Commissioner Eng. Richard Ruyango said that, the government recognizes the efforts made by the Nelson Mandela Institution of Science and Technology in partnering with various institutions to bring changes to the society.
“This is great move the Nelson Mandela Institution of Science and Technology has made which adheres in emphasizing the need and role of university –industry linkages to enhance employability of graduates” Said Honorable Eng. Ruyango
According to the NM-AIST Vice Chancellor Prof; Emmanuel Luoga said that the Public-Private Partnership or rather Academia Public Private Partnership(APPP) is very important in advocating innovation and research for industrial development whereby NM-AIST is an ambassador for supporting this movement.
“The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology encourages APPP as in the new corporate strategic plan aims to increase public-private partnership to strengthen outreach programs and increase public awareness and innovation” said Vice Chancellor Prof. Luoga
On the other hand Chief Executive Officer of EABC Mr. John Kalisa said that EABC will offer practical industrial placement for the academic in order to reduce skills mismatch and boost innovation towards a digital economy.
The signed Memorandum of Understanding partnership focuses on research, Innovation, entrepreneurship, technology transfer/commercialization, industrialization and investment.

The Signing Consortium Agreements for the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (N M-AIST), Innovation Based Incubation Centre was officiated on Monday 20th September, 2021 by the Vice Chancellor of NM-AIST Prof. Emmanuel Luoga whereby FOUR Incubators signed FIVE agreements which were also witnessed by the Institutional Legal Officer Advocate Mathias Safari, promising to implement the goals they have set for themselves now and in the future.
Prof. Luoga said that basing on the perceptive and future direction of NM-AIST Research and Innovation projects, strategic objectives will be able to bring about changes and positive attitude within the Institution including the establishment of Postgraduate skills and development programs and to support the existing centers to establish more incubation hubs.
He also insisted on facilitating local, external and International collaborators through the Mandela Investment Company (MIC) which has been recently established and hence fulfills the Institutional goal of “Academia for Society and Industry”.
In His keynote address, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Institute, Academic Research and innovation (ARI) Professor Anthony Mshandete emphasized on the development of innovative research within NM-AIST and the need to focus on research that will bring productivity and solve problems to the society.
On 25th – 26th May, 2021 the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in collaboration with the African Centre for Water Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy Futures (WISE-Futures) conducted a Workshop On Improving Customer Care and Nurturing Entrepreneurial Mindset.
During the opening ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of the NM-AIST, Prof. Emmanuel Luoga highlighted that, a number of initiatives towards revenue generation for sustainability has been made, these includes strengtherning of the Resources Mobilization and Investment (ReMoI) unit and its commitees, establishment of Investment Company and many others. In order to sustain such developments, change of mind-set of our workforce is vital, that is why we decided to have this workshop primarily for by deans of schools, heads of departments and units.
The overall objective of the training was to open the managers’ minds and hence grab the available opportunities for generating income while providing satisfactory services to clients.
Participants got an opportunity to various skills and strategies for improving services and output including Kaizen, ISO, customer care and ethics at working environment. The aim was to ensure that workers are views and ideas on management issues also visited the NEW Factory, which contains Nutrients, Energy and Water demo farm of WISE-Futures at NM-AIST.
