The Kiswahili Beginners Course to NM-AIST International Students

The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) had beginner’s Swahili language Course to its International students. Under the instructor Dr. Ahmad Kipacha who was assisted by Mr. Msafiri Mziray40 students were registered and attended a two month course which started on Wednesday 15th June to Wednesday 17th August, 2022with the aim of enabling them to communicate well within and outside the campus.

On Monday 7th November 2022,20 out of 40 registered students were handed over certificates of completion by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic, Research and Innovation) Prof. Anthony Mshandete, who was the guest of honor to the ceremony which was held at the NM-AIST Amphitheatre.

Prof. Mshandete highlighted to students that, during its 41st Session, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)General Conference declared the 7th July of every year as the World Kiswahili Language Day, the mission being to promote the use of Kiswahili language as a beacon for peace, and enhanced multiculturalism.

He urged students to frequently use the Swahili language as it is now being used as a tool of communication to more than 14 countries with its origin in East Africa such as Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), South Sudan, Somalia, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Comoros, and as far as Oman and Yemen in the Middle East
