Prof. Athanasia Oswald Matemu is an Associate Professor in Food Biotechnology/Functional Foods and the current Head of the Quality Assurance Unit. Prof. Matemu was appointed as HoD of QAU in 2018. As HoD of AQU, Prof. Matemu is responsible to promote, coordinate, facilitate and monitoring all quality assurance matters at NM-AIST. Prof. Matemu has more than 5 years of experience in Curriculum development and review. She has attended a number of training on Quality assurance in Higher Eduction Institutions.

She is a co-founding member of the Kibong’oto-Nelson Mandela-Cedha Health Research Ethical Committee (KNCHREC). Before the current position, she has served as an acting Head in the Department of Food Biotechnology and Nutritional Sciences (FBNS). Prof. Matemu is also a member to various NM-AIST committees and Senate and serves as Secretary to the Quality Assurance Committee.Her research interest is on Post-harvest losses management, exploitation of underutilized food resources and Functional foods. Prof. Matemu has published over 35 papers international peer review journals and gave more than 25 presentations in international conferences. She is also supervising a number of postgraduate students.
