The NM-AIST AI community was established in 2020 with the following objectives;

1. Create an environment for capacity building through trainings to NM-AIST and other communities at large on various AI topics.

2. To enhance knowledge sharing with other AI stakeholders within the country in order to produce competent AI practitioners and researchers with the ability to create real-world intelligent systems applicable to our local context.

3. To provide a platform for AI researchers to share/present their research concepts, research progress and findings prior to final presentation to Graduate Seminar, defense, conference or viva voce.

4. Create a front for collaboration with various national and international AI organizations, academic and research institutions and technology companies for the purpose of exploring various AI opportunities such as trainings, conferences, research funds, participation, AI resources etc.

5. 5.Raise awareness to our local community and even globally by hosting various events such as conferences, meet ups, workshops etc. This can involve people from the industry, experts, academicians, researchers, students, government officials (policy makers) etc. The aim is to create synergy between different value chains to see how various stakeholders can collaborate to design effective AI systems and promote its growth. This will act as a hub for developing the AI cycle to the country and at a global level.

The NM-AIST AI Community held a sensitization event for staff and students in February, 2020.
