The Centre for Water Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy Futures (WISE-Futures) at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) is one of the Eastern and Southern Africa Centers of Excellence (ACE II) aim to strengthen African higher education institutions to deliver quality post-graduate education and build collaborative research capacity in the regional priority areas. NM-AIST invites applications from suitably skilled, competent, and experienced Tanzanians not above 45 years for the following posts: –

1. RADIO PRODUCER AND PRESENTER ( 1 POST)

(a) Qualifications:

  • Holder of Bachelor Degree in Mass Communication, Journalism, Media Studies, Broadcasting, or a related field.

(b) Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, research, and develop engaging science-focused radio programs that align with the station’s objectives and promote scientific literacy.
  • Script and  structure  science  programs  to  ensure  smooth  transitions,  clear explanations, and engaging storytelling for a diverse audience.
  • Generate accurate, creative, and informative science-related content, breaking down complex topics into easy-to-understand discussions.
  • Ensure all content adheres to broadcasting laws, ethics, and station policies,maintaining scientific accuracy and journalistic integrity.
  • Host  and   present   live   and   pre-recorded   science   programs   with   clarity, professionalism, and enthusiasm to educate and engage listeners.
  • Conduct insightful interviews with scientists, researchers, and industry experts, translating technical knowledge into relatable discussions.
  • Interact with  listeners  through  phone  calls,  messages,  and  social  media, addressing scientific questions and encouraging public discourse.
  • Adapt to live situations, handle unexpected challenges, and maintain a consistent and confident on-air presence in science-related discussions.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by supervisor.

(c) Knowledge and Essential Attributes:

  • Two (2) years of experience in radio production and presenting is an added advantage.
  • Strong understanding of media laws, ethics, and broadcasting regulations.
  • Excellent content creation and scriptwriting skills.
  • Must have the ability to use audio editing software (e.g., Adobe Audition, Audacity, or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of current affairs, entertainment, and audience engagement strategies.
  • Experience in interviewing guests and conducting live shows.
  • Understanding of social media integration for radio promotion and audience interaction.
  • Technical knowledge of studio equipment and sound mixing.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills in English and Kiswahili.
  • Below 45 years of age.
  • Demonstrate ability to meet tight deadlines

(d) Duration of the position:

Full time one year contract, with a probation period of six months. The position is renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

(e) Salary:

Basic Monthly Salary 1,195,000 TShs (Subject to all statutory deductions).

(f) Duty Station:

WISE-Futures, Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology [NM-AIST], Nganana 23311 Kikwe Arumeru – Arusha, Tanzania.

(g) Reporting to:

Centre Leader / Deputy Centre Leader/Centre Manager.

2. RADIO PRODUCER AND MARKETING (1 POST)

(a) Qualifications:

  • Holder of Bachelor Degree in Marketing, Mass Communication, Journalism, Broadcasting, Marketing, or a related field.

(b) Duties and Responsibilities

  • Host and  present  live  and  recorded  radio  programs  focused  on  science, technology, and innovation with engaging and professional delivery.
  • Research, script,  and  produce  accurate,  informative,  and  engaging  science- related content, making complex topics accessible to the general audience.
  • Interact with  listeners  through  calls,  messages,  and  social  media,  fostering discussions on scientific advancements and their impact on society.
  • Conduct insightful interviews with scientists, researchers, and industry experts, working closely with the production team to ensure well-structured discussions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with science institutions, advertisers, sponsors, and business partners to secure funding and collaborations.
  • Search and  engage  with  potential  clients  to  promote  science,  research  and innovation product/business.
  • Manage and promote science programs through social media, digital campaigns, and interactive online platforms to reach a broader audience.
  • Represent the station at science-related events, outreach programs, and public discussions, ensuring accuracy, ethical reporting, and adherence to broadcasting regulations.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by supervisor.

  • Must have the ability to use audio editing software (e.g., Adobe Audition,Audacity, or similar).
  • Ability to stay updated on current trends, audience preferences, and industry developments.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining relationships with advertisers, sponsors, and partners.
  • Knowledge of digital marketing, content creation, and audience analytics for effective engagement.
  • A proactive, innovative mindset, with the ability to multitask and work under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Below 45 years of age.

(d) Duration of the position:
