The Vice Chancellor of the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), Prof. Maulilio Kipanyula, has expressed his gratitude to the Government of the Sixth Phase under the leadership of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, H.E. Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for sponsoring 80 master’s students through the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology.

Prof. Kipanyula made these remarks on May 16, 2025, in Arusha during the institution’s quarterly staff meeting. He noted that the sponsorship continues to strengthen national efforts to build human capacity in science, technology, engineering, and innovation.

He also announced that NM-AIST has once again been officially approved to host a Bootcamp for 50 students who are expected to pursue undergraduate studies abroad under the Samia Scholarship extended 360 Data Science, AI and Allied Science. In this Bootcamp, students receive preliminary training, academic preparation, and foundational skills before starting their international studies.

In his speech, Prof. Kipanyula urged the institution’s researchers to focus on real social and industrial challenges in the country by conducting research aimed at developing innovative and scientific solutions. He highlighted ongoing achievements, including the registration of 22 patents, the implementation of digital systems within the institution, and the effective use of the e-Office system in administrative operations.

Additionally, Prof. Kipanyula called on staff members to participate in large numbers in the upcoming Nelson Mandela Marathon, scheduled for July 20, 2025. He stated that the goal of the marathon is to promote the participation of girls in science at postgraduate and doctoral levels.

“We should use this platform to educate the public and demonstrate the importance of empowering girls to access equal opportunities in science and technology fields,” said Prof. Kipanyula.
