The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) has embarked on a significant initiative to upgrade its laboratory facilities to meet international standards. This Endeavor is supported by the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) Project, which has allocated 7 billion Tanzanian shillings for the procurement of advanced laboratory equipment.

The contract for the supply of this equipment has been signed with two companies: Evolve Company and Afrika Biosystem. Evolve Company, represented by Mr. Thomas Elisa Mwasikili, secured a contract worth 4.3 billion shillings. Mr. Mwasikili expressed gratitude to President Samia Suluhu Hassan for enabling institutions like NM-AIST to benefit from the HEET project, and he pledged to complete the supply on time as per the contract terms.

Afrika Biosystem, represented by Mr. Charles Fubusa, was awarded a contract valued at 2.7 billion shillings. Mr. Fubusa assured that his company would effectively manage and implement the project to fulfill all contractual obligations within the agreed timeline.

The Vice Chancellor of NM-AIST, Prof. Maulilio Kipanyula, emphasized that these investments in state-of-the-art laboratory equipment are aimed at enhancing research capabilities and fostering innovation. The upgraded facilities are expected to support the production of high-quality agricultural products and other goods that meet international standards, benefiting both Tanzania and international consumers.

Overall, this initiative underscores NM-AIST’s commitment to advancing scientific research and contributing to economic development through improved educational infrastructure and technology.
