Shabani Athumani Makumbi is an Electrical Power Engineer and academic specializing in renewable and thermal power systems. He serves as an Assistant Lecturer in Sustainable Energy Science and Engineering at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), Arusha, Tanzania.

Makumbi holds a Master of Science in Electrical Machines and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Power Engineering from Université M’hamed Bougara de Boumerdès (Algeria) and a Certificate of Achievement in MScT Complex Systems Engineering (specializing in Environmental Engineering) from École Centrale Méditerranée, France. His research interests include renewable and thermal energy systems, biomass-to-electricity cogeneration, battery energy storage technologies, hybrid solar–biomass power systems, and smart grids. He is particularly focused on AI-based modeling and optimization of hybrid and decentralized power systems for sustainable energy access and resilience in Africa.
