The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) conducted a two-day immigration formalities session from 6–7 January 2026, held at NM-AIST and Namanga One Stop Border Post.

The Immigration Officer in Charge at Namanga Border, Mr. Bulugu Edward Nkanga, highlighted the key pillars that define a state: defined territory, government, population, and sovereignty.

He emphasized the crucial role of immigration in controlling and protecting national borders, particularly in regulating the movement of people and goods. He explained that immigration systems were developed to safeguard states against security threats, communicable diseases, and harmful plants.

Mr. Nkanga also stressed the importance of following to the entry and exit immigration formalities when crossing borders.
