On October 18, 2025, the vibrant city of Kigali became the stage for innovation and cutting-edge research at the IEEE MTT-S Broadening Participation Committee (BPC) Workshop hosted by CMU-Africa. Amidst this gathering of global experts from renowned institutions like NASA JPL, University of Pavia, Intel, and the University of Tennessee, a group of determined students from NM-AIST stepped forward to make their mark.

Themed “MHz to THz Technologies for Ubiquitous Communication and Sensing,” the workshop aimed to explore how high-frequency technologies can drive Africa’s leadership in communication and sensing advancements. In this exciting atmosphere, NM-AIST students participated in the intense 3-Minute Presentation Competition (3MPC), where they had just moments to captivate the audience with their groundbreaking research.

With a blend of clarity, creativity, and technical depth, our students delivered compelling presentations that spoke volumes about the quality and innovation happening at NM-AIST. Their ability to communicate complex ideas succinctly won admiration from peers and experts alike, shining a spotlight on NM-AIST’s growing expertise in Microwave, Antenna, and Wireless Communication research.

Behind these successes was the steadfast support and mentorship of Prof. Shubi Kaijage, who guided the students through every step, representing NM-AIST proudly during the technical sessions and encouraging them to reach new heights.

This event was more than a competition it was a celebration of African innovation and the promise of future leaders driving technology forward. NM-AIST’s presence at the IEEE MTT-S BPC Workshop not only highlighted student talent but also reinforced the institute’s role as a key player in the continent’s technological growth.
