The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) convened a strategic collaborative meeting at its Tengeru campus, bringing together representatives from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MOEST), the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH), and the University of Johannesburg (UJ).

The meeting aimed to explore academic and research opportunities in South Africa, with a particular focus on beneficiaries of the SAMIA Scholarship Extended (SSE) for Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Allied Sciences. Discussions centered on potential areas of collaboration between UJ and NM-AIST, including hosting SSE DS/AI+ fellows, facilitating staff and student exchange programs, developing joint academic courses, and undertaking collaborative research and innovation projects.

During the visit, representatives also engaged with SSE DS/AI+ beneficiaries to discuss emerging opportunities in fields such as Computer Science, Big Data Management, and Artificial Intelligence reinforcing the shared commitment to strengthening Africa’s capacity in cutting-edge digital technologies.
