The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) has reinforced its position as a continental hub for research and innovation by hosting the NEST Seeding Roadshow under the theme, “Bridging Continents, Powering the Future.”
Speaking through Prof. Mwemezi Rwiza, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic, Research and Innovation, Prof. Anthony Mshandete, said the selection of NM-AIST to host the roadshow was a strategic decision. He noted that when Italy’s Energy Transition Network and the Mediterranean Academy sought an African partner to anchor their vision, they chose NM-AIST because of its academic excellence, interdisciplinary strength, and robust innovation ecosystem.

Prof. Mshandete explained that the global energy transition extends beyond engineering alone. It requires the integration of technology, environmental sustainability, economics, and human behavior. He added that NM-AIST’s four schools work collaboratively to deliver holistic, data-driven, environmentally sustainable, and economically viable solutions, in line with the institution’s motto, “Academia for Society and Industry.”
Speaking at the event, Gabriella, General Manager of the NEST Foundation (Network for Energy, Sustainable Transition), said the roadshow aims to strengthen collaboration between the Italian and Tanzanian innovation ecosystems. She explained that NEST was established in 2022 under Italy’s Ministry of University and Research, with support from the European Union, and brings together 11 universities, five research centers, and major companies to accelerate sustainable energy solutions.

She emphasized that NEST places strong priority on technology transfer to ensure that research results are translated into real-world impact. She noted that the foundation is committed to ensuring that research does not remain confined to publications, but is transformed into practical solutions that support a digital, renewable, and climate-neutral future.
The roadshow is expected to stimulate joint research initiatives, the development of concept notes, and long-term institutional partnerships. Through this engagement, NM-AIST continues to strengthen its role as a key African partner in advancing the global energy transition agenda.
