The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Dodoma City to enhance the application of science, technology, and innovation in addressing community development challenges.
During the signing ceremony, Guest of Honor Hon. Jabir Shekimweri, Dodoma District Commissioner, emphasized the importance of this partnership, noting that Dodoma City is rapidly expanding as the nation’s capital. He highlighted the need for research and innovation to help tackle emerging development challenges and called upon NM-AIST to support investment in grape production technologies and assist local grape farmers.

NM-AIST Council Chairperson, Maimuna Tarishi, underscored the significance of collaboration between higher learning institutions and local governments to ensure that research and innovation directly contribute to community development.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Maulilio Kipanyula reaffirmed NM-AIST’s commitment to working closely with local authorities so that expert-driven research provides practical solutions to citizens’ challenges.

Dodoma City Director, Dr. Frederick Salamiko, added that today’s world requires professionals capable of applying science and technology to address social and economic issues.
This agreement is expected to strengthen collaboration between academic institutions and local governments, accelerating the use of science, technology, and innovation to drive sustainable community development.
