The Industrial Advisory Committee (IAC) of the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology has officially completed its three-year term of service, earning widespread recognition for its significant contribution to enhancing the quality of education and strengthening the link between academia and the industrial sector.
The milestone was marked during the 6th committee meeting, where the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic, Research and Innovation (DVC-ARI), Anthony Mshandete, commended the committee for its outstanding performance and its vital role in advancing the institution’s achievements.
Prof. Mshandete encouraged committee members to maintain their engagement with the institution by continuing to provide professional guidance, particularly in areas requiring improvement and strategic input.
“Although the committee’s term has officially come to an end, your contributions remain vital to the development of the institution. You are encouraged to stay connected and continue offering your expertise whenever needed,” he emphasized.

He further highlighted that throughout its tenure, the committee served as a critical bridge between the institution and industry stakeholders, ensuring that academic programmes remain aligned with the evolving demands of the job market.
The Industrial Advisory Committee was established in line with directives from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, with the objective of enhancing the quality of higher education by aligning curricula, research, and innovation with the needs of industrial development and the national economy.

In fulfilling its mandate, the committee played a pivotal role in identifying industry trends, advising on the development and improvement of academic programmes, and strengthening collaboration in research and innovation.
Moreover, the committee facilitated stronger linkages between the institution and industry stakeholders, supported the identification of funding opportunities, and recommended industry professionals to participate in teaching—thereby equipping students with practical, real-world experience.
As a result, the committee’s contributions have significantly enhanced the quality of graduates from NM-AIST by ensuring they possess skills that are relevant to the labor market, while also reinforcing the institution’s partnership with the industrial sector nationwide.
