As part of the Higher Education for Economic Transformation (HEET) Project initiatives, the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) convened its 5th Industrial Advisory Committee meeting to discuss ways of enhancing entrepreneurship, promoting innovation, and preparing graduates for the evolving job market.

The meeting brought together stakeholders from government, the private sector, academia, and students to align NM-AIST’s academic programs and research with market demands, while reinforcing the institution’s role in driving national and regional development through science, technology, and innovation.

Chaired by Dr. Monica Hangi, Regional Director for East and Central Africa at TradeMark Africa, and supported by Mr. Jumanne Mtambalike, CEO of Sahara Ventures, as Vice Chairperson, the session highlighted the importance of academia-industry collaboration in accelerating socio-economic growth and producing graduates with industry-relevant skills.

The Industrial Advisory Committee, which includes members from NM-AIST and strategic external partners, provides expert guidance to ensure that the institution’s academic and research efforts remain practical and solution-oriented.

By integrating such initiatives under the HEET Project, NM-AIST continues to strengthen its ties with industry, positioning itself as a continental hub for science, technology, and innovation that supports sustainable development across Africa.
