The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) on 26th March, 2025 hosted a group of eager students from the School of Notre Dame, located in Njiro-Arusha.

The visit provided the students with a unique opportunity to explore NM-AIST’s initiatives aimed at promoting Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Innovation (STEMi) among girls in secondary schools, as well as the establishment of science clubs designed to foster curiosity and learning.

The visit began at 12:00 PM with a detailed tour of the institution’s advanced Laboratory, where the students observed firsthand the cutting-edge research and experiments taking place. This was followed by a visit to the High-Performance Computing (HPC) Center, where the students learned about the power of computational technologies in solving real-world problems.

The tour also included a stop at the Incubation Center, a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship, showcasing the incredible potential of young minds in driving technological advancements. The tour concluded with a visit to the Data-Driven Innovation Center, where the students were introduced to the evolving role of data in shaping industries and addressing global challenges.

Throughout the day, the students had the opportunity to engage with faculty, staff, and fellow students, all of whom shared their insights and experiences in the world of STEMi. The visit not only allowed the students to witness the impactful work being done at NM-AIST but also inspired them to think about how they could contribute to the advancement of science and technology in their own communities.

The excitement and curiosity that filled the air throughout the visit were tangible, reflecting the growing interest among young girls in STEMi fields. NM-AIST remains dedicated to encouraging young girls to pursue careers in science and technology, particularly by offering a platform for them to see how their skills can directly impact the future of innovation.
