The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) is currently hosting a five-day training program focused on systematic reviews and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in evidence-based research and decision-making.
The training was officially inaugurated by Dr. Neema Mosha, Director of Library Services, on behalf of the Vice Chancellor. In her opening remarks, Dr. Mosha emphasized the importance of modernizing research practices to meet the growing demand for high-quality, data-driven evidence in both academia and policy-making.
This course is designed to bridge traditional systematic review methods with cutting-edge AI tools, enabling participants to conduct high-quality, AI-augmented research that drives real-world impact. Through practical sessions and expert-led discussions, participants are learning how AI can streamline and strengthen the review process, from literature screening to data synthesis.

Participants include representatives from various Tanzanian ministries and higher learning institutions, creating a multidisciplinary environment for knowledge exchange and collaboration.
By the end of the training, attendees will have gained hands-on experience in using AI to conduct systematic reviews—enhancing the speed, accuracy, and comprehensiveness of their research.
The impact of this training is expected to be far-reaching. By strengthening the research capacity of individuals and institutions, the program aims to foster more informed decision-making, promote evidence-based policy development, and ultimately support national development goals in Tanzania.
