The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) has handed over 50 computer devices to students of the Samia Scholarship Extended Program in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Allied Sciences. The initiative is conducted under the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Tanzania Commission for Science and Technology (CoSTECH).

During the handover ceremony, NM-AIST Vice Chancellor, Prof. Maulilio Kipanyula, congratulated the students for their dedication and highlighted the Government’s commitment to preparing young people to drive technological transformation in the country. He emphasized that the event is part of ongoing efforts to provide Samia Scholarship beneficiaries with world-class knowledge and skills.

Dr. Judith Leo, Dean of the School of Computational and Communication Science and Engineering (CoCSE), encouraged the students to use the devices effectively to enhance both their learning and practical skills.

After receiving her device, Sabrina Said Khamisi said the support motivates her to study harder. She highlighted that the computer will help her carry out practical exercises and prepare for studies in artificial intelligence and data science. “I thank the Government for trusting and empowering us,” she added.

Similarly, Elia Richard described the opportunity as exceptional. He said the device will enable him to work on coding, simulations, and other technology-based projects, and promised to use the resources to create a positive impact in the community.

The special training program began on September 15, 2025, as part of the Government’s strategic initiative to build expertise in Data Science, Allied Sciences, and Artificial Intelligence.

This commitment was emphasized by the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, during the opening of the 13th Parliament on November 14, 2025, in Dodoma. She stressed the importance of strengthening Science and Mathematics education, highlighting the Government’s goal to produce highly skilled scientists in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Allied Sciences, and Industrial Technologies. The Samia Scholarship Fund will continue to support training locally and internationally to drive the development of a modern, technology-driven economy.
