
The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) has been named the overall winner in the Higher Learning Institutions category at the 31st Agricultural and Livestock Exhibition (Nanenane) for the Northern Zone, held on August 8, 2025.at the Nanenane grounds in Arusha.
The event’s Guest of Honour, Hon. Nurdin Hassan Babu, the Regional Commissioner of Kilimanjaro, led over the closing ceremony and presented awards to outstanding exhibitors. He commended all participating institutions for their contributions toward advancing agricultural and livestock innovation in the region.
NM-AIST earned top Honors for its outstanding display of innovative, research-based technologies addressing real-world challenges in agriculture, livestock, and environmental sustainability.

Speaking to the media after receiving the award, NM-AIST Vice Chancellor, Prof. Maulilio Kipanyula, expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the institution’s ongoing mission to provide practical, science-based solutions to societal challenges.
“This award is a strong validation of the transformative work being done at NM-AIST. Our focus is on producing innovations that directly benefit communities, especially in the agricultural and environmental sectors,” said Prof. Kipanyula.
NM-AIST’s exhibition featured a range of cutting-edge technologies, including: Fish vaccination innovations, Black soldier fly farming, Eco-friendly leather tanning agents, Organic fertilizer production, Modern technologies for enhancing livestock productivity.

Earlier this year, NM-AIST was also recognized nationally for leading in the registration of research outputs among higher learning institutions in Tanzania. This achievement at Nanenane further highlights NM-AIST’s position as a national and regional leader in science, innovation, and technology for sustainable development.
