Nelson Mandela Marathon Promotes Science Education for Women

The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology has announced the inaugural Nelson Mandela Marathon, themed “Stride for Science, Step for Success,” scheduled to take place at the Tengeru Campus in Arusha on September 22, 2024.
During a press conference on July 2, 2024, Prof. Maulilio Kipanyula, Vice Chancellor of the institution, emphasized the marathon’s objective to inspire women and girls to pursue studies in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Innovation at the master’s and doctoral levels.
Prof. Kipanyula urged athletes, universities, public and private organizations, and companies to collaborate with the institution to ensure the marathon’s success. He highlighted the event’s significance in advancing education, particularly in science disciplines, enabling women to play a pivotal role in addressing societal and industrial challenges.

Prof. Lilian Pasape, Chairperson of the Nelson Mandela Marathon Organizing Committee, reported positive progress in preparations. She extended a warm invitation to sports stakeholders nationwide, especially service providers, to join efforts in making the marathon a resounding success.
The Nelson Mandela Marathon features race categories of 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km. Participants are required to pay a registration fee of sh. 35,000 via M-PESA to account 54284944. Upon payment, participants should send their details to either 0756817072 or 0655208508. Registration fees include a commemorative T-shirt and medal.
