ICT Facilities and Policy

The IRC has a host of facilities available for use by staff and students. Usage of these facilities is governed by the IT policy.

Fixed and wireless internet

All offices in the administration block and library and laboratory complex and all rooms in the Master’s hostels and researchers’ village have Ethernet ports for connection to the Internet.

Wi-fi access points are deployed across the campus offering internet connectivity from any area on campus. Secured wi-fi is provided in the administration block and in the laboratory and library complex. Passwords can be obtained from the IRC offices. Public wi-fi is available in the library.

Servers and High Performance Computer

The IRC has a range of servers of varying capacity that can be used to host applications during research and scale-up or for temporary data backup.

We also collaborate with the high performance computing laboratory to operationalise and manage a supercomputer with computing power of 14 Tera flops, the only supercomputer of its calibre at a higher learning institution in Tanzania. Once operational, the HPC will be accessible to both internal and external stakeholders.
