Professionally, Nelson Mpumi (PhD) is a Lecturer in the School of Materials, Energy, Water and Environmental Sciences at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST). He has a PhD in EnvironmentalSciences and background in chemistry and biology. His research interests focus on the ecologically and environmentally benignpest control and management approaches using botanicals. He has worked on the evaluation of selected botanicals as insecticides against cabbage insect pests in Tanzania. His focus is in researching, implementing and consulting on sustainable crops pest management, agroecology in farmlands, organic agriculture and climate resilient farming approaches in Tanzania and beyond. He is passionate in collaborative research, with maximum involvement of farmers in all research stages, including problem identification, designing goals and approaches, assessing and monitoring of the research activities. He is strongly commited to helping smallholder farmers for controlling insect pests in vegetables and other crops in general for their wellbeing using botanicals His areas of interest lie in the fields of Environmental chemistry, Environmental Toxicology, Sustainable Agriculture and Microbiology and biotechnology. His current research is in use of botanicals for the control of insect pests in crops.
