NM-AIST  yashinda Mashindano ya Taifa ya afya na Usafi wa Mazingira kundi la Vyuo Vikuu

Taasisi ya Afrika ya Sayansi na Teknolojia ya Nelson Mandela (NM-AIST), imeibuka kidedea kwa kuwa Mshindi wa Kwanza katika Mashindano ya Taifa ya afya na Usafi wa Mazingira kundi la Vyuo Vikuu, Tanzania Bara kwa Mwaka 2022.

Mashindano hayo yaliratibiwa na ofisi ya Katibu Mkuu Wizara ya Afya.

Young researchers in East Africa Community are urged to provide solutions to society's challenges through research.

This was said by the Director of Social Sectors East African Community (EAC), Dr. Irene Isaka, during the opening of a two-day conference on Technology Development through various studies organized at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in collaboration with GIZ.

Dr. Irene added that if young researchers provide solutions to society's challenges, the governments of each EAC country will take measures to change the country's behavior.

“When government and society face challenges, young researchers should be ready to solve that societal problem,” she said.

The Vice Chancellor of The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology, Prof. Emmanuel Luoga said that CENIT@EA is a Center of Competence that revives itself with Computer and information technology issues and involves all East African countries to provide a solution in society and generates employment through research activities.

Prof. Luoga thanked the government of Tanzania for collaborating with the country of Germany in developing education and research issues for scientists and trainers for seven years since 2017.

The Secretary General of the Federation of East African Universities, Prof.Gaspard Banyankimbona, asked the governments of those countries to invest more money in research to provide societal solutions.

The conference was attended by more than 200 experts from around the world as its the first International ICTA- EMOS conference to be held in Arusha Tanzania under the coordination of The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology in collaboration with GIZ.

RSIF Visit to NM-AIST

Representatives from the Regional Scholarship for Innovation Fund (RSIF) made a two-day visit to NM-AIST on November 3rd and 4th 2022, to monitor the progress of RSIF-funded projects at NM-AIST. The visitors were Ms. Cynthia Orang'o and Ms. Elizabeth Murimi (Seen in the photos with the NM-AIST Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Anthony Mshandete and the NM-AIST Coordinator Dr. Rwiza Mwemezi).

The visitors paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor and Deputy Vice Chancellor's offices. They also had time to interact with all RSIF-funded students at NM-AIST.

The Ag. Vice Chancellor, Professor Anthony Mshandete thanked The International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE) and RSIF for supporting the vision and mission of the NM-AIST and promised a continued and sustained collaboration between the NM-AIST and ICIPE.

The Kiswahili Beginners Course to NM-AIST International Students

The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) had beginner’s Swahili language Course to its International students. Under the instructor Dr. Ahmad Kipacha who was assisted by Mr. Msafiri Mziray40 students were registered and attended a two month course which started on Wednesday 15th June to Wednesday 17th August, 2022with the aim of enabling them to communicate well within and outside the campus.

On Monday 7th November 2022,20 out of 40 registered students were handed over certificates of completion by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic, Research and Innovation) Prof. Anthony Mshandete, who was the guest of honor to the ceremony which was held at the NM-AIST Amphitheatre.

Prof. Mshandete highlighted to students that, during its 41st Session, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO)General Conference declared the 7th July of every year as the World Kiswahili Language Day, the mission being to promote the use of Kiswahili language as a beacon for peace, and enhanced multiculturalism.

He urged students to frequently use the Swahili language as it is now being used as a tool of communication to more than 14 countries with its origin in East Africa such as Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), South Sudan, Somalia, Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Comoros, and as far as Oman and Yemen in the Middle East

The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) signed Accredited Test Centre Agreement (ATC) on 23rd September 2022 at the Vice Chancellor Office as per the earlier signed MoU on 2nd September 2022.

The Agreement appoints NM-AIST as an Accredited Test Centre on non-exclusive basis to deliver the ICDL programme and in particular to carry out certification Tests for Candidates at the Centre.

“It’s such an honor for NM-AIST to be an official training Centre by training teachers in ICT in Education and allowing them to know how to run a class smart classroom” said Vice Chancellor Prof. Emmanuel Luoga.

He added that with this Agreement will go hand in hand with the previous MoU by collaborating with ICDL Africa in operating the National Centre of excellence in ICT in education (NCEITE) at NM-AIST.

General Manager of ICDL Africa Ms. Solange Umulisa said that the ATC agreement aim at upgrading technology to make relevant and meet people needs in ICT due to day to day technological changes.
