Young researchers in East Africa Community are urged to provide solutions to society's challenges through research.

This was said by the Director of Social Sectors East African Community (EAC), Dr. Irene Isaka, during the opening of a two-day conference on Technology Development through various studies organized at the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST) in collaboration with GIZ.

Dr. Irene added that if young researchers provide solutions to society's challenges, the governments of each EAC country will take measures to change the country's behavior.

“When government and society face challenges, young researchers should be ready to solve that societal problem,” she said.

The Vice Chancellor of The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology, Prof. Emmanuel Luoga said that CENIT@EA is a Center of Competence that revives itself with Computer and information technology issues and involves all East African countries to provide a solution in society and generates employment through research activities.

Prof. Luoga thanked the government of Tanzania for collaborating with the country of Germany in developing education and research issues for scientists and trainers for seven years since 2017.

The Secretary General of the Federation of East African Universities, Prof.Gaspard Banyankimbona, asked the governments of those countries to invest more money in research to provide societal solutions.

The conference was attended by more than 200 experts from around the world as its the first International ICTA- EMOS conference to be held in Arusha Tanzania under the coordination of The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology in collaboration with GIZ.
