Akinyi Lydia Sassi is a lecturer at Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology NM-AIST), School of Business Studies and Humanities. She completed her first degree (Bachelor of Business Administration majoring in Marketing Management) at Mzumbe University, Morogoro-Tanzania in 2009. She later joined Ajou University in Suwon-South Korea for her second degree (Masters of Arts in International Trade) from 2011-2012. In December 2020 she was officially awarded a PhD in Business Management from the Open University of Tanzania. Before joining NM-AIST she was a lecturer at The Open University of Tanzania (OUT), Faculty of Business Management (FBM), department of Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Management. She was also a head of the department of postgraduate admission and registrations, a representative of FBM at the OUT-gender unit and assistant coordinator of the collaboration between OUT and United National Conference on Trade and Development Virtual Institute (UNCTAD Vi). In 2018 she was among the 20 young Africans who won a competitive research fellowship for scholars researching “Youth Engagement in Rural Economic Activities in Africa”. The fellowship was coordinated by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture and funded by International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). Her latest completed research work includes the commissioned research which involved the Assessment of the Tanzania Cashew-nut Trading system.
