Academic Department is the wing dedicated to ensuring that academic excellence of the University is maintained by supporting the office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic, Research and Innovation in achieving the respective goals. It is responsible for supporting the scholarly work of the schools, teaching, learning, and analyzing factors influencing students’ academic performance.
The Department provides administrative oversight to educational and research affairs in collaboration with Deans and Heads of Department to maintain communication and cooperation to explore possibilities for reciprocal and joint arrangements to review academic matters of common concern. The department rigorously advises the office of DVC - ARI to ensure the integrity, quality, and value of the academic degrees are retained. Thus, the Department coordinates and participates in the formulation, review and amendments of examination policies and regulations. Furthermore, it is the jurisdiction of the Academic Department to coordinate the development and review of academic programmes in order to foster creativity and innovations to for the purpose of solving challenges of the society and industries.
The Charter recognizes the Head of Academic department the Secretary to Senate, which is the principal overall decision –making organ in respect of all academic matters of the university. In addition, the Senate is responsible for the academic work of the university in teaching and learning, research and innovation, extension and consultancy.
In order to enhance effectiveness in the execution of the Academic activities, four Academic Officers have been deployed into Schools where they report directly to the Dean of Schools. The four schools are Life Sciences and Bioengineering, Computation and Communication Science and Engineering, School of Materials, Energy and Environmental Sciences and School of Business Studies and Humanities.
