Dr Ahmad Kipacha holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from SOAS, University of London, UK. He joined the School of Business Studies and Humanities (BuSH) of the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NMAIST) in July, 2012. He is currently, the head of department of Humanities, Leadership and Governance and a coordinator of Indigenous Knowledge & Heritage initiatives a member of senate committee in Academic affairs and a lecturer/coordinator of a university wide courses in Academic &Scientific Research communication skills (Bush 6001),
Philosophy, Ethics and Social Imperatives (Bush 6002) and Law and Ethics (Bush 6007) at Tengeru and IHI campuses. Additionally, he is conducting short course in international course in Kiswahili for NM-AIST foreign students under collaboration between International Office and BuSH.
In between 2013 and 2019, Dr Kipacha, with BuSH colleagues, has coordinated and organized Business Plan Competition, Arusha Living Lab, Mandela Innovation Week and African Grand Challenges (in Collaboration with WSU, Penn State University & Merck (USA) and STI Innovation Systems Leadership (in collaboration with UNESCO & GKI). Among the achievement in UNESCO/GIK/NMAIST Innovation Systems in Tanzania, he was contracted in November and December 2012 to attend Workshop on Surveys on Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Policy Instruments, Governing Bodies, Policies and Indicators, in Harare, Zimbabwe.and Uganda parliamentary STI committee and presented a government brief.
During 2017-2019, Dr Kipacha has been engaged in PACE RESEARCH NETWORK: Project on Postproverbials in African Cultural Expressions sponsored by Alexander von Humboldt Alumni Awards for Networking Initiatives Postproverbials in African Studies in collaboration with Ibadan University. Dr Kipacha curated the Swahili data available at:(https://postproverbial.com/postproverbials/kiswahili-tanzania).As an editor, Dr Kipacha is actively involved as an Editorial board member of Arusha Working Papers in African Linguistics (AWPAL) ed. (Troy E. Spier). He was previously established and and become Editor in Chief of –Journal of Humanities, School of Humanities, UDOM (ISSN 1821-7079) between 2008-2009.
As a translator, Dr Kipacha was contracted by the School of Life Sciences at NM-AIST, Tanzania between Jan-July 2017 to translate from Swahili to English, 151 pages of materials on the Focus Group Discussion on Local School Girls Personal Hygiene Project. Others work includes Translating courses from English to Swahili of the Humanitarian Leadership Academy c/o The Kenya Institute of Management in 2018.
At the moment, Dr Kipacha is involved in two projects: (i) Establishment of Shaaban bin Robert Centre at Machui Tanga Tanzania March 2019 (With East African Kiswahili Commission Zanzibar. (ii) Development of A series of glossary of technical Terms English Swahili Project with faculties at NMAIST):

- A glossary of Public Health Sciences Terms English-Swahili
- A glossary of Water Management Terms English-Swahili
Prior to joining NMAIS, Dr Kipacha has been an associate visiting trainer of the MS Training Center for Development Cooperation in Arusha Tanzania since 2014. He was involved in offering tailor made Language and Tanzanian Culture in context courses, to foreign students, in particular American students visiting Tanzania for a short and a long term engagement. During this period, Dr Kipacha was selected as an external examiner of Fulbright Hays GPA OHIO study Abroad Swahili Programme for US Department of Education and International & Foreign Language Education from 2014 to 2017.
Dr Kipacha has been a director of Lindi Regional Centre of the Open Uninversity of Tazania between 2005-2007. He aslo held a position of a Director of Quality Assurance (2008-9) at UDOM, head of language departments and director of postgraduate at TUMA (2010-12), lecturer of various courses in humanities, in several higher learning institutions in Tanzania (OUT, UDOM, TUMA and JKUT. He successfully developed MA ELT, and MA Translation for Makumira University College all endorsed by TCU by June 2011.
In 2007, Dr Kipacha was one of the experts who formed a task team to develop 57 programs to initiate the University of Dodoma in 2007, and chaired a task force to develop Quality Assurance Policy and Procedures Handbook of the University of Dodoma Tanzania (Sept. 2009) at UDOM. He has served as an external examiner of UDSM, DUCE, MUM between 2009-2019. He served as partime lecturer and developed of postgraduate language programs at RUAHA UNIVERSITY 2012-2014; Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology - Arusha Centre from 2011- 2012.
Dr Kipacha was also involved in collaborative projects and consortiums: Some of these include Research Communication for Values, Governance & Development Practices Consortium (Funded by DFID (UK), from 2007 -2010. The report on The Relationship between Religious Teachings, Values and Beliefs and Concepts of Development in Tanzania- (Co-authored with Simeon Messaki of University of Dares Salaam) was delivered in Jan 2010 at DFID/Birmingham University UK. On community outreach initiatives, Dr Kipacha was involved in WAMA Project– Advocacy Strategy for Prevention and Reduction of Early Pregnancy in Mtwara Region. May 2007-8. Funded by Clinton Foundation on HIV and Aids Initiatives. WAMA Project– and delivered “A Baseline Assessment of Advocacy Strategy for Prevention and Reduction of Early Pregnancy in Mtwara Region”. Dr Kipacha, with international language experts met in UAE between Jan - June 6, 2010, to develop the Dynamic Immersion Language Learning Software for Rosetta Stone, Harrisonburg.VA 22801 USA. The software is a Self-Study online language learning material for a global market. Dr Kipacha, has also been fortunate to participate in auspiciously consortium of language experts from USA, Jordan, Morocco, Oman, and Tanzania, held in Amman Jordan from 1st to 9 December 2016 to develop methodology of handling culture diversity in teaching of foreign languages through English medium to CLS clients sponsored by American Council for International Education, Washington DC.
In 2010, Dr Kipacha participated in The OSSREA senior researchers award to conduct a Project on the Social and Cultural Impacts of Urban and Tourism Development Pressure on Coastal Indigenous Swahili Communities in Tanzania: (With Dr Suzanne Gwalema of the Open University of Tanzania).
As a forensic language expert, Dr Kipacha has been contracted by renown Soliciting firms of UK between 2001-2004 to work as language expert witness for Christian Gottfried & Co. Solicitors, London UK 2004; Markandan & Co. Solicitors & Administrators for Oaths Thamil House UK London 2003; Woodfine Bachelor Solicitors, Bedford UK 2002) Based on these experiences, Dr Kipacha has been assigned in February 2020 to develop a proposal for a short course in forensic language course at NMAIST .
