The Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and Technology (NM-AIST), located in Arusha, Tanzania, is a Pan-African institution committed to training the next generation of African scientists and engineers to drive sustainable development through Science, Engineering, Technology, and Innovation (SETI). NM-AIST is implementing a research and capacity-building project funded by the u’GOOD Programme, a research initiative focused on young people’s relational wellbeing in urban and peri-urban environments, primarily in the Global South. The u’GOOD Programme is a partnership between the National Research Foundation (NRF) of South Africa, Fondation Botnar (Switzerland), and the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) of South Africa. This project aims to empower marginalised youths, including youths with physical disabilities, as well as primary and secondary school students, by equipping them with practical skills in clean energy technologies.
As part of this project, one (1) Master of Science (MSc) scholarship position is available to support research on clean cooking technologies, with a strong focus on social inclusion, climate change, and youth livelihoods.
The MSc scholarship will run for a maximum of two years. The scholarship is initially granted for one year and may be subsequently extended upon successful academic performance.
The scholarship will cover tuition fees, monthly stipend, accommodation and research-related costs (As per NM-AIST regulations).
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
1.Hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering (Energy, Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental, Bioprocess, post-harvest, or related fields) with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
2.Have at least three (3) years of working experience in renewable energy solutions, such as improved cookstoves, briquettes or biomass energy, biogas or other clean energy technologies
3.Possess a valid admission letter to NM-AIST for an MSc programme relevant to energy or sustainability.
4.Submit a letter from the employer supporting the application.
5.Demonstrate strong motivation to work with marginalised communities and on inclusive energy solutions
