
Chancellor Omari Issa emphasized the critical role of commercialization in innovations produced within the institution during an official visit by new members of the institution’s Council on May 20, 2025, aimed at reviewing ongoing projects and fostering a deeper understanding of NM-AIST’s mission and future goals
He highlighted that the institution’s scientific discoveries and technological advancements should not only contribute to academic knowledge but also be transformed into marketable solutions that support economic growth and societal development.

Ambassador Maimuna Tarishi, Chairperson of the Council, stressed the importance of strengthening governance and strategic partnerships to ensure NM-AIST’s long-term success.
On his side, Vice Chancellor Prof. Maulilio Kipanyula expressed his gratitude for the visit, noting that it provided an excellent opportunity for the Council members to engage directly with the institution’s work. He emphasized the importance of fostering collaboration with both industry and government to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world applications, further enhancing NM-AIST’s impact.

During the visit, Council members toured several key facilities and projects within the institution, including the Centre for Digital Education (C-CoDE), the Institution Library, laboratories, the High Performance Computing Centre, the Precision Livestock Farming (PFL) Project, hostel construction sites, the Data Driven Innovation (DDI), and the Incubation Centre. At each stop, they were briefed on ongoing scientific research, innovative initiatives, and strategic collaborations aimed at addressing social and economic challenges through science and technology. They also witnessed firsthand the innovative products and technologies developed by NM-AIST’s students and researchers.
