The School of Materials, Energy, Water and Environmental Sciences (MEWES)
The School of Materials, Energy, Water and Environmental Sciences (MEWES) aims to train graduates scientists and engineers to become outstanding leaders in the advancement and application of science and technology in respective fields. The school is comprised of two departments: Material and Energy Science and Engineering (MESE); and Water, Environmental Science and Engineering (WESE).
Academic Departments and Degree Programmes
Department of Materials and Energy Science and Engineering (MESE)
The Department of MESE aims to build human resource capacity in the areas of Materials and Energy Science and Engineering. The Materials programme is concerned with inventing new materials and improving previously known materials by developing a deeper understanding of the microstructure-composition-synthesis-processing relationships. The Energy programme deals with global issues of energy security and research with concept of sustainability in the energy-engineering field.
Materials Science and Engineering (MaSE)
The Materials Science and Engineering (MaSE) programme provides students with a broader understanding of the field before they specialize in either: Structural materials; Electronic materials; Bio- and Polymeric materials; Nanomaterials; and Energy materials.
Graduates of the programme will not only be able to deal with the development of materials, but also with the synthesis and processing of materials and manufacturing processes related to the production of engineered materials.
